Day 19: The Send-OffLast night we kinda practiced Acts 13. Antioch was a sending church. They had Paul and Barnabas working with them as ministers, but when the Holy Spirit called them into mission work, not only did they go, but the church in Antioch sent them. This morning at 4:00, Phil Waggoner arrived at the Nashville airport to begin his full time mission work in Latin America. He worked with our youth for nine years, but now is committed to reaching youth in Central America. It is no small thing to change career paths, to move out of country, to leave comforts, and to embark on this soul winning journey. Tony Huddleston lead a beautiful prayer on Phil's behalf last night during our midweek service. It was such a comfort to pray knowing Phil doesn’t go alone, but with God. They will do fine. Doug Perry, John Thomas, Phil, and myself enjoyed a late night meal at Waffle House. There is a lot of tradition in that gesture. I can’t explain the laughter, comments with history, comfort of old friends, and the feeling of a new chapter beginning. You know what I mean. As we returned to the church building parking lot we all prayed for Phil. There is something powerful, real, and comforting about times like that. They are some of my best friends in the world, and we all lean on God. Tonight, miles will separate us from Phil, but we all will be in communion with the same Father. He always has been the best link. Today, will you pray for Phil, and will you comment below what you are specifically praying? Written by David Shannon, Preacher at Mt. Juliet ![]()
Comments:
I prayed for protection, courage, patience, compassion, and an extra measure of love for those he will be ministering to and working with.
I pray that you will find opened hearts in Central America.
May God bless you as you step out in faith on His mission
I pray that Phil will be useful in the Kingdom, that he'll be safe and healthy, and that he will be a blessing to all the lives he touches.
wow! thank you so much!
It is truly a blessing to be part of God's family... I appreciate Brother Tony leading that prayer...and all the kind words, hugs, and support... It was truly a joy to spend time with Doug Perry, David, and John Thomas at Waffle House. I love, respect, and admire these men and am thankful for Christian brothers and sisters who care about you! much love always, phil waggoner
I pray for Phil's personal health and safety as he works with all the youth who are going to blessed by Phil's presence in their country. And I pray that each of the youths that he comes in contact with will receive the message he is carrying, and that many, many souls will come to know God because of Phil.
I think of Alan Cantrell's lesson last night and realize that Phil is living that lesson! << Home |
